The controls here (tuning, panning, wave, morph, etc.) are almost exactly the same as the original Icarus, but their layout is slightly improved.

To the right of the patch display is yet another improvement: the oscillators and their controls are all visible at once and they now offer an optional “classic” view of the wavetable shape. That’s one reason having the macro/mod wheel control is an advantage (especially if no MIDI keyboard is connected), as even at the smallest display size (without the main editor or keyboard: 331 by 251 setting) that same macro/mod wheel control is still visible. Another type of display that’s available has only certain controls visible for editing. Most of these can be used with or without the keyboard showing at the bottom of the display. One of the big improvements in this latest version of Icarus is multiple display sizes.

Of course if you’re using a MIDI keyboard you might not use that mod wheel control that often, but it’s definitely handy. The macro/mod wheel is an easy way to control the mod wheel or you can set it to any other target in the modulation matrix. In the four corners of the patch display are extra functions which include the mono/legato/polyphonic settings, pitch bend settings, microtuning modes and glide settings.īelow the patch display are settings to adjust the panning, volume, velocity amount, effects amount, macro/mod wheel control and glide time. You can also click on the name of the category or patch name to view a list to select from. Below the patch browser button is the patch display where you can use the left/right arrows next to the category and patch name to skim through patches. Patches can be rated using a five-star system and along the right side are the patch attributes and sound designer info. Along the left are the categories which include Arpeggiator, Bass, Brass, Keys, Leads, Organ, Pads and many others.

On the PC, Icarus 2 will work with Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, and 10 (32-bit or 64-bit) There is much to cover here, so let’s get started. It includes glitch and drum sequencers, multiple display sizes (including high-dpi support), two MSEGS, several new LFO types, 62 filter types, an improved patch browser, MPE support, over 1,500 presets, and the entire layout has been redesigned allowing you see many functions at the same time (including all of the oscillators). The original Icarus was already an advanced wavetable synthesizer, but now it is also a synth-workstation.
